eDocuments companies form Secure Identity Alliance
Leading secure eDocuments companies 3M, Gemalto, Morpho (a division of Safran) and Oberthur Technologies announced the formation of the Secure Identity Alliance (SIA), a grouping dedicated to developing the usage of government-issued eDocuments for increased security, and to encourage deployment of secure convenient online services strengthening the privacy of the end-users.
The SIA’s major objectives are to accelerate the transition to smart eDocuments and enable an open, interoperable and efficient rollout of trusted eGovernment online services.
ABI Research: 320 million NFC devices to be shipped in 2013
ABI Research’s recent NFC Market Data establishes full year 2012 shipments of secure elements are now estimated at 147 million with 125 million enabled handsets being shipped. Growing inclusion of embedded solutions by OEMs will account for the majority of secure elements in 2013 as MNOs seed the market with close to 100 million SWP SIM cards.
Expected NFC-enabled device shipments were increased, with 2013 forecasted to reach a minimum of 320 million units across all product categories—an increase of 118% over last year. This will drive the market past the half billion NFC devices in use in H1/2013.
