Security and functionality in a convenient form factor

Week 27, 2010

The industry now proposes smart card level security in a more convenient form factor, the USB key or token. The advent of this form factor has triggered the development of numerous applications on a previously unexplored territory. Now, secure USB tokens have made their way to end user homes either as a banking security solution, supplied by a financial institution, or as a mass storage device, purchased directly by the end user or by an IT administrator in companies. This installed base plays an essential role in making users in offices and households get accustomed to the combination of the familiar USB token form factor, and the security brought by the smart card chip, present aboard secure USB tokens.

This existing installed based will play a role for the industry development, on other market segments, such as enterprise security, transport, or eGovernment segment.

In a just published Smart Insights Report, we explore and evaluate these opportunities, and establish ways for the industry to take advantage of the fast increasing demand for secure USB tokens.
