10% SIM growth in 2009

Thursday 1 July 2010

India was the area of fastest growth with 471 million SIMs delivered in 2009, representing a 65% growth due to mobile penetration advancing year-on-year. Average SIM memory grew by 8% mainly due to growth in Latin America, China and India. For instance, in Latin America, the increase of the average memory size is a reflection of the development of SIM-based value-added services, on a handset base that includes less smartphones than in other markets. 3G migration rose by two percentage points to 20% of cards shipped. S@T, the standardized mobile browser is now present on 15% of SIM cards shipped in 2009.
