Oberthur sales up 10%
Oberthur delivered 44.6 million cards during Q1/2007, a 32% increase over Q1/2006. The best performance comes from the Middle East and Africa region, and also from Asia, with 80% of the region's volume coming from the Indian market. The ASP (Average Selling Price) is roughly stable sequentially. The Mobile Communication segment amounts to 34% of Oberthur Card Systems Q1/2007 sales.
Volumes for the Identity and Security segment reached 8.3 million units, a 47% growth vs. Q1/2006 fuelled by a strong demand in the Pay TV sector, a banking ID card program for the Ivory Coast, US administration card deliveries and Moroccan ID card shipments.

According to Oberthur, average selling prices seem to have entered a stabilization phase in all market segments. The finalization of the acquisition of I'M Technologies in April will allow the company to benefit from stronger SIM R&D resources, and subcontracting experience. EMV deployments in Europe and Asia, along with recovery of UK and France market will have a favorable impact in the Payment segment. Oberthur Card Systems will continue to expand in personalization activity in 2007 through new bureaus, partnerships and joint ventures throughout the world. A manufacturing plan has also been launched in order to increase volumes, enlarge the scope of activities in Asia and optimally allocate worldwide resources.
