PCI SVA is formed, not recognized by PCI

Thursday 22 March 2007

The PCI SVA was formed to work with the payment card industry - including merchants, banks, payment processors and point-of-sale vendors - to develop its "roadmap to PCI Data Security Standards (PCI DSS) compliance". Now 24 other companies have joined the organization: ACR 2 Solutions, Inc., AirTight Networks, Application Security Inc., BitArmor Systems, Breach Security, Centrify, Computer Security Products Inc., Digiware, Ecora Software, Ipswitch, Kinamik Data Integrity, Loglogic, NCircle, Net Compliance Solutions, New Edge Networks, NuBridges, Princeton Softech, Rapid7, RBS Lynk, SecurityMetrics, Semtek, SenSage, Tizor Systems, Vectra-corp. One may notice none of these companies is a major payment card industry player.

PCI Security Standards Council (cf. Smart Insights #06-37), the owner and manager of the PCI Data Security Standards issued a statement saying it had no connection with the PCI SVA, nor any agreement for a common work. PCI (Payment Card Industry) is born from the association of MasterCard Worldwide, Visa International, American Express, Discover Financial Services and JCB. The structure first established a security standard for payment terminals, and is now an open global forum for the ongoing development, enhancement, storage, dissemination and implementation of security standards for account data protection.
