Visa and Datacard launch instant issuance

Thursday 29 November 2007

From the bank’s perspective it means that the issuance process can be managed securely and remotely, thereby removing the obstacles, which currently make instant issuance in the retail environment impractical.  For the retailer it offers the opportunity to provide customers with an added-value service they will appreciate by following straightforward processes and security procedures. For the cardholder, instant issuance means that, instead of having to wait several weeks for their bank to issue them with a new card, they can have instant access to the convenience of a credit or debit card while they shop.

The new equipment features lockable cassettes used to load card stocks into the machine, so retail staff need never have access to blank cards. A remote inventory capability allows the issuer to periodically check stock levels without the need for staff to visit the instant issuance sites. A safe-like construction means that the device could be anchored in the retailer’s store with access doors locked and card stocks separately secured into the carousel.
