It just sounds cool to have an ID, a banking application, a transport application and why not healthcare, physical and logical access control on the same card. And for many years, it was only nice talks, nice presentations, and very little implementations. So was it just a marketing posture?

After the mega merger Gemplus – Axalto in our industry, we are now witnessing more mergers and acquisitions. Some of them are only indirectly influencing the smart card industry such as the acquisition of the Intel cellphone chips division by Marvell, but many of them come right in our scope of business.
