What do Sophia Antipolis, in Southern France, and Hong Kong have in common? Both places are the hotbeds of technology innovation for our industry. In Sophia Antipolis, this innovation trend is mainly due to the presence of numerous innovative companies, thanks to the French government will years ago, and to a market push with innovative and entrepreneurial companies, along with the launch of Nice NFC experimentation. In Hong Kong, innovation comes from the long-standing free entrepreneurship of the territory along with the geographical and cultural proximity of the huge Chinese market.
In our industry, Sophia Antipolis, is the location of the yearly Smart Event conference, where R&D and marketing departments of the secure transactions industry gather together to elaborate of future developments and future markets for our industry. Smart Event allows the industry to meet, and to be able to elaborate on future R&D and market subjects, without being busy with customers.
This year, Hong Kong is, for the second time, the location chosen by SIMalliance, the SIM card manufacturers association to organize its SIMposium conference. During SIMposium, the SIM card industrialists along with their customers, the mobile Network Operators, and everyone in the ecosystem, meet to define which SIM developments suit best the evolutions of the mobile communications market. From SIMposium experience, it seems that our industry is not much affected by the ongoing crisis. Everyone is enthusiastic wih the numerous TLAs of the industry: NFC, OTA, TSM, LTE, SWP, BIP, MNO, M2M, STK, MDM, … and of course SIM!
What else is in common between Sophia Antipolis and Hong Kong? Another common point between both events is the SIMagine competition, launched at Smart Event. Now managed by SIMalliance, it is a great opportunity for many developers, small companies, individuals, university labs, … to show their ability in SIM application development, and to benefit from promotion, increased visibility as well as prizes in cash and services.
